Stealing Musical Ideas To Make Unique Music

Writer's block begone! In this lesson, I show how easy it is to write original and awesome sounding music by stealing a simple rhythmic pattern (and a few other ideas along the way). The rhythm is known as a double tresillo, a grouping of 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 4. I explain that rhythm in detail here:

One thing you may have caught is that I didn't actually play a riff over the picardy third. This is because after mixing and mastering, I decided to change the arrangement a bit. The point still stands though!

Also, some folks will complain about my notation in the thumbnail. I get it. I also think that anyone who has studied rhythm for a decent amount of time will easily accept (and maybe even prefer) that notation over the proper one that uses ties. It's so ugly!!!!
